Most of Spring Hill was platted by the Deltona Corporation in the late 1960s, and roughly 28,500 lots sold within about three years. The result is mile after mile of similar-sized yards with mature oaks, block homes and long straight streets. We know those lots. We also work the newer HOA neighborhoods where the standards are tighter and the edges matter more.

Sandy Soil, Floratam and Chinch Bugs in Spring Hill
Most irrigated Spring Hill lawns are St. Augustinegrass, usually Floratam, which UF/IFAS lists as the most widely used cultivar in Florida. It wants at least six hours of sun, so it thins out under the big oaks that came with these lots. Yards without irrigation are often bahiagrass, which holds up better on dry sandy ground but throws seedheads fast. The southern chinch bug is the main insect problem in St. Augustine here, and it usually shows up first in hot, dry strips along driveways and sidewalks. Mowing at 3.5 to 4 inches helps.

How often should my Spring Hill lawn be mowed in summer?
From roughly June through September the rain comes almost daily and St. Augustine puts on real growth. Weekly is the right interval for most Spring Hill yards in that stretch. UF/IFAS advises never removing more than a third of the blade in one cut, and going every other week in July usually means scalping. Bi-weekly works fine in the cooler months. We will set the interval with you before we start.
Which day can I water my lawn in Spring Hill?
Hernando County runs a one-day-a-week schedule, and your day is assigned by the last digit of your house number, Monday through Friday. Weekends are no-watering days. The district also has a shortage order in effect right now that tightens the permitted hours further. Those orders get renewed and revised, so check hernandocounty.us or the SWFWMD site for the current day and hours before you set a timer. We work around whatever schedule you're on.
Do you work the older original Spring Hill lots?
Yes. A lot of Spring Hill is still the original Deltona-built housing stock on modest lots, often two-bedroom block homes with a single-car garage. Those yards are our bread and butter. Tight side yards, mature oaks, fence lines and a mailbox that needs trimming around. We bring equipment sized for that, not commercial gear meant for open acreage.
Can you clean out a yard that has gotten away from me?
Yes. Overgrown yards, rental turnovers, estate properties and vacant Spring Hill lots are normal work for us. We will look at it, tell you what it takes, and give you one flat price before anything starts. Hauling is included in the quote so the debris actually leaves. After the reset, most people move onto a regular mowing schedule.
Do you charge extra for the big oaks and leaf drop?
No surprise add-ons. We agree the price before we start and that is the price. Spring Hill has a lot of mature live oak from the original development, and the leaf and acorn drop is real. If you want the beds and driveway blown out every visit, say so when we quote it and we build it in.
